Loyalty to the deceased

Loyalty to the deceased

Article · What benefits the deceased after death

Deeds that do not end

He ﷺ said: “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, or a righteous child who prays for him.” (Muslim)

Charity on behalf of the deceased

Sa'd ibn Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My mother died while I was away. Would it benefit her if I gave charity on her behalf? He ﷺ said: “Yes.” (Bukhari)

Fulfilling the rite on their behalf

A woman said: My mother vowed to perform Hajj but did not do so before she died. Shall I perform Hajj on her behalf? He ﷺ said: “Yes, perform Hajj on her behalf. If your mother had a debt, would you not pay it? Pay Allah's due, for Allah is more deserving of fulfilment.” (Bukhari)
